This hotel was built by Josif Stalin's order in 1952 in a pompous "Soviet Empire Style", with large rooms, broad corridors, crystal chandeliers, etc. The Hotel was completely renovated in 1997. The Sovietsky Hotel is also home to the famous "Yar" restaurant, which was founded in 1826 and rebuilt in 1910.The Yar maintains the quaint atmosphere from the beginning of the 20th century, when it was most famous for its Gypsy performances. The restaurant has delicious Russian and European cuisine.
